THE BOOK OF LIFE, which is mentioned in the Bible, holds great significance. Many have heard of this heavenly record that contains the names of those who will be brought up to heaven and be granted eternal life and salvation on the Day of Judgment. Those whose names are recorded in this celestial ledger will experience everlasting bliss. So, the question is, what are you doing today to ensure your name is on this sacred book?
How do you know if you’re going to go to heaven or not?
And how do you know if your name is truly written in the Book of Life in heaven?
In order to properly address this subject, let us embark on exploring and providing detailed insights into the following important interrelated questions:

To start, let’s first find out how all of us will be judged and how it will be determined whether or not we’ll be worthy to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Let’s turn to the Holy Bible for the answer. We turn to Revelation chapter 20, verses 12 and 13, where this is recorded:
“And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books. The sea gave up the dead who were in it, And Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works.”

What we’ve just read is one of the visions that God revealed to Apostle John. Based on his vision, books were opened and one of which was the Book of Life. And why were such books opened? They were opened because, on that day, people will be judged and rewarded by God according to what they have done. But how can people be judged if they are already dead? The passage mentioned, “The sea gave up the dead who were in it, And death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works.” This implies that people will be resurrected to receive either judgment or reward from the Lord God.
The pertinent question at hand is, how is the Book of Life relevant to our judgment? Does the Bible teach that one’s name written in the Book of Life directly correlates with the attainment of eternal life or rewards on the impending Day of Judgment? Have you ever pondered the significance of the question, “Is my name inscribed in the Book of Life? Does it matter?” Once more, our reference is the Holy Bible, this time directing our attention to the scripture of the prophet Daniel, wherein he scribed the ensuing passage:
“…There will be a time of terrible suffering. Things will be worse than at any time since nations began. But at that time of suffering your people will be saved. Their names are written in the book of life.”

The passage underscores the significance of having one’s name inscribed in the Book of Life, signifying belonging among God’s chosen people. It articulates that this holds utmost importance as those listed in the Book of Life will attain salvation on the Day of Judgment, and that matters!
And who are these people of God that have their names written in that Book of Life? You may be asking yourself, “Am I one one of them?” “Am I going to heaven?” Based on the Bible verses we have just read, that’s the same as asking, “Am I among the people of God who have their names listed in the Book of Life?” So, who are they? We continue posing the questions and turning to the Bible for answers. Hebrews 12:22-23 reads this way:
“But you have come right up into Mount Zion, to the city of the living God the heavenly Jerusalem, and to the gathering of countless happy angels; and to the church, composed of all those registered in heaven; and to God who is Judge of all; and to the spirits of the redeemed in heaven, already made perfect; …”

The gathering referred to in these verses is to occur in the future in heaven. The people who will be part of this gathering in heaven are those whose names are registered in heaven and are part of the one particular church, as mentioned in the book of Daniel, “and to the church, composed of all those registered in heaven.” These individuals are the ones whose names are in the Book of Life and are defined as God’s people who will be saved.
It is imperative to consider the consequence of not having one’s name inscribed in the Book of Life. According to the bible, the assurance of entering the kingdom of heaven hinges on the inclusion of our name in the Book of Life, which serves as the roster of God’s people designated for salvation. The crucial question remains: What happens if one’s name is not included in this record? Is it plausible to entertain the idea that an alternative path to salvation exists? Upon revisiting the Holy Scriptures, particularly the book of Revelation, chapter 20, verse 15, one encounters a clear and unequivocal response:
“And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.”

The Bible delivers and conveys a very direct and clear message. It states that if you’re not listed in the Book of Life, you’ll be cast into the lake of fire. Obviously, nobody wants to be found in this terrible predicament. So, we need to become part of those whom God considers His people while we still have the chance. Only then can we be assured that our names are inscribed in the Book of Life in heaven, as mentioned in the Holy Bible. As we also read, God considers His people the church, composed of all those registered in heaven.
Which Church is referred to as the people of God whose identities are stored or registered in heaven? Hebrews chapter 12, verses 22-23 clarifies:
“But you have come into the reality (of which the symbols only pointed to), to Mount Zion, the new Jerusalem— the heavenly city of the living God—and you are part of that city. You have come to join millions upon millions of angels rejoicing in God’s presence, into the heavenly sanctuary—the true church of Christ—whose identities are stored in heaven. …”

Therefore, the people of God whose names are listed in the Book of Life in heaven and who will be rejoicing with millions upon millions of angels are the members of the true Church Of Christ and their identities are stored in heaven. We all must be among them.
